What is organic refined sunflower oil?

Organically refined sunflower oil is a product obtained from sunflower seeds that have been grown according to organic standards, but then gone through a refining process. This means that the sunflower has been grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other synthetic substances, following strict environmental standards. The difference here is in the oil processing method.

Main characteristics of biologically refined sunflower oil:

  1. Organic : As with cold-pressed oil, the sunflower from which the oil is produced is grown in ecologically clean conditions, without pesticides, chemical fertilizers or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). This ensures that the product is natural and pure.

  2. Refined : Refining is a process that removes impurities, color, odor and taste from the crude oil. Through different stages of purification, the oil becomes more neutral and stable. Refining also increases shelf life and makes it more resistant to high temperatures, making it suitable for frying or cooking.

Advantages and disadvantages :

  • Advantages : Organically refined sunflower oil has a high smoke point (around 220–230°C), which makes it suitable for cooking at high temperatures, including frying. Additionally, refining removes any unwanted aromas and flavors, making the oil versatile for a variety of culinary uses.

  • Disadvantages : In the refining process, some beneficial substances such as vitamin E and natural antioxidants can be lost, making refined oil less nutritious than cold-pressed oil.

This oil is preferred in cases where a neutral taste and high resistance to heat treatment are sought, especially in cooking. However, it retains its organic status as it is produced from organically grown raw materials.
